“And at once Jesus gave them permission. Then the unclean spirits went out and entered the swine (there were about two thousand); and the herd ran violently down the steep place into the sea, and drowned in the sea.” – Mark 5:13

In the process of casting out a legion of demons from a man, about two thousand were destroyed. That certainly cost a lot of money, and it was someone’s business and source of livelihood. But Jesus obviously didn’t mind. That let’s us know that all those sheep weren’t as valuable as the man’s soul.

Jesus asked two questions in Mark 8:36-37: “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? ” In other words, nothing in this world is as valuable as a soul! Not even the entire universe can be used to pay for a soul! That’s why we could only be redeemed by the blood of Jesus.

1 Peter 1:18-19 says, “Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.” I hope you now know your worth? Rejoice!
