KADUNA, Nigeria — Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has urged President Bola Tinubu to intensify efforts in tackling corruption within Nigeria’s oil sector and to ensure that those involved in illicit activities are held accountable.

Dogara made the call on Sunday, June 25, 2023, in Kaduna State, on the sidelines of a Thanksgiving Church service in honor of the outgoing General Secretary of the Evangelical Church Winning All, ECWA, Reverend Yunusa Nmadu.

He lauded the president’s overall performance, saying that Tinubu has demonstrated commendable leadership that merits the support of the citizenry.

However, Dogara emphasized the necessity for the president to focus on the recovery of looted funds from what he referred to as “oil cabals”.

“President Tinubu has so far demonstrated leadership and should be commended by all citizens. He, however, should ensure that all the looted funds are recovered from the oil cabals,” Dogara said.

In addition, Dogara and other dignitaries at the event, including Reverend Yunusa Nmadu and Senator Sunday Katung, representing Southern Kaduna, applauded President Tinubu for his recent appointment of new service chiefs.

They highlighted that the appointments reflected a balance of ethnicity and religion and were indicative of a commitment to equity and justice.

“There is a genuine representation from every region regardless of party, ethnicity, and religion, which is laudable,” Dogara noted regarding the appointments.

Meanwhile, with security challenges, particularly in the country’s northern region, remaining a pressing issue, Reverend Nmadu and Senator Katung urged the newly appointed service chiefs to prioritize the issue of insecurity.

They also called on President Tinubu to provide palliatives to alleviate the economic impact of fuel subsidy removal on the populace.

The calls for tackling corruption within the oil sector and addressing security issues underscore Nigeria’s ongoing challenges and the expectations placed on President Tinubu’s administration.
