NEW YORK, USA – In a chilling revelation, former gang member David Collins recounts an alleged incident involving iconic pop diva Whitney Houston and her then-husband, R&B superstar Bobby Brown, in his new autobiography “No More Harlem”.
The couple, who were married from 1992 to 2007, reportedly had a tumultuous relationship, which often made headlines for alleged drug abuse. However, they remained united, facing challenges together, as one harrowing incident in 1993 suggests.
In his book, which was published in October 2020, Collins recounts a dramatic episode in which Houston supposedly paid a hefty $400,000 ransom to secure Brown’s release from kidnappers, as reported by The National Enquirer.
The incident was never reported to the police and supposedly took place in April 1993, around the same time Houston’s film ‘The Bodyguard’ and its accompanying soundtrack were achieving international success.
According to Collins, Brown owed over $25,000 to a New Jersey drug dealer. The notorious New York City gang, the Preacher Crew, allegedly paid off Brown’s debt and then kidnapped him, escalating the debt to $400,000.
“Bobby was enticed to a Manhattan nightclub and later to a Bronx apartment under the pretence of more high-grade cocaine. Once there, he was knocked out with a single punch,” Collins wrote in his book. “When he awoke, Bobby was naked and hog-tied, his mouth stuffed with a rag.”
The gang, Collins maintains, threatened to murder Brown unless the ransom was paid. Houston, disguised in a wig and dark glasses, allegedly met the kidnappers at an abandoned Bronx building, carrying the demanded sum in a duffel bag.
Following the payment, Brown was released unharmed.
Collins, who claims to have spent many years as a member of the Preacher Crew, provides a detailed account of the incident, painting a picture of a couple united against adversity.
Representatives for both Houston and Brown declined to comment on the allegations when approached by American news outlets.
