3 Police Officers Bag 2 Years In Jail For Negligence

Magistrate A. Demi-Ajayi of an Ebutte-Metta magistrate’s court sitting at Oyingbo, Lagos state had on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 sentenced three police officials to two years imprisonment each over charges bordering on negligence which led to the stealing of their rifles.

Among the policemen who were attached to Ishashi Police Division of Lagos State Police Command,are Sergeant Felix Okwa, 47; Corporal Ogu Romanus, 46, and Constable Sunday Okoh, 34.

In addition to the two years jail term, the three cops are also expected to serve a six-month community service after the terms.

According to Vanguard, the policemen were said to be on patrol on December 12 at about  11.30PM, when they received a call from an unknown guest, named Kezzy, who invited them for supper at Regional Hotel, also in Ishashi, claiming he wanted to reward them for a job they did for him.

During the supper, the guest allegedly drugged their foods which made them sleep off before he subsequently disappeared with their weapons including three AK-47 rifles and 90 live ammunition.

After the incident, the hotel manager reported the matter at the Ishashi Police Station who arrested the officers in their unconscious state and subsequently charged the trio to court.
