Two male siblings have been caught while they were attempting to smuggle hundreds of steroid pills and painkillers into a prison after packing them inside cartons of Ribena juice.
Anabolic steroids is the name for synthetic substances related to the male sex hormones like testosterone used to enhance the growth of skeletal muscle and the development of male sexual characteristics in both males and females.
Nahim Ali, 34, was serving time in Featherstone Prison, Staffordshire, when he contacted his brother Tahir, 40, on the outside, and asked him to help smuggle drugs in, according to Mail Online.
The brothers from Birmingham, UK intended to pack hundreds of tablets and bottles of steroids and testosterone into Ribena cartons and subsequently throw them into the prison through the walls.
Police officials recovered three cartons of Ribena drinks filled with 750 pills, as well as a bottle of pure testosterone and another steroid in the area during a raid in the area.
The contents of the cartons included 399 tablets of oxymetholone and 310 tablets of oxandrolone, both powerful anabolic steroids, and 49 tablets of buprenorphine, a painkiller sometimes used as a heroin substitute.
The Ribena cartons contained 30ml of testosterone, and 30ml of Nandrolone, another type of anabolic steroid for body building.
It was learnt that the police acted based on a tip off after they caught Tahir on the phone explaining to his brother how the drugs would be packaged.
Officers waited for the next smuggling deal when they replaced the drug-filled cartons with fakes.
Tahir who was supposed to be freed on February 27, last year was arrested with his brothers after the recovery was made by the police.
They were charged with conspiracy to supply class C drugs which they all confessed to be guilty of.
They were subsequently granted bail and the case was adjourned.
