A British newspaper, Mail Online, on Sunday questioned President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption credentials ahead of his arrival in London for a world anti-corruption summit to be hosted by UK’s prime minister, David Cameron.

The paper said “self-proclaimed ‘People’s President’”, Buhari, may be waging a war against corruption his critics have described as a witch hunt.

It wrote that Buhari sends his daughter to a £26,000-a-year English school and that in April, the opposition PDP party unearthed a ticket stub showing Hanan, 16, had flown first-class from London to Nigeria, despite her father’s ban on officials using premium travel.

The report added added Buhari had spent £150,000 on educating his daughter Zahra, a Surrey University student.

The paper also questioned Buhari’s failure to give a full account of his worth, and pointed out his partial admission of more than £1million in the bank, five houses and two plots of land.

Mail Online added: “The presence of Nigeria’s president at David Cameron’s anti-corruption summit this week may surprise many in his nation – which receives vast amounts of UK aid.

“Self-proclaimed ‘People’s President’ Muhammadu Buhari began a war on corruption after taking power last year, but critics allege it is a political witch-hunt.

“The Government is giving nearly £250 million in the coming year to oil-rich Nigeria..

“Supporters say 49 arrests of members of the previous regime show the anti-corruption war is genuine, but opponents say it is politically driven.

“Nigeria has the highest-paid government officials in the world but is one of the largest beneficiaries of UK foreign aid.

“The president of its senate, Bukola Saraki, is due to face trial on corruption charges after it emerged he has a £6million London property in his wife’s name.

  1. Thank God that despite the one sided and hypocritical press which pretend to be fair that suddenly went dumb, there is still press in the world that can still show character and unbiased in reporting. The person his predecessor which are being deceived to believe that he is corrupt have all his children schooled here and got married here too, but the one who told he is fighting corruption have his children abroad while Nigerians suffocate here in darkness and hunger. If one want to show sincerity it should start from your house, how can you things better when your are not here? You said no more oversea medical treatment for government officials when your children are schooling outside with heard currency, school and health which one is more important considering life.. The hypocrisy is too much even to point of outsiders noticing what is prevailing, this indeed bis very disappointing and disgraceful.

  2. At whose expense ? I don’t care if he spent trillions to educate his daughters as long as it’s not from the government’s coffers. May be because he used his money in training his Children that explains why he doesn’t have so much money in his bank accounts. Alot of civil servants at director level are spending their children to school abroad what’s the big deal.

    • How then did he make all the fortune used in sending his children to the best schools abroad at exorbitant cost, since he has constantly claimed never to have tampered with public tile all through his public life till date? This man has always given the impression of being the only former head of state who left power a poor man, so it’s very questionable that we’re having revelations which strongly contradict that stance. I think he’s just a pretender and deceiver! I have lost confidence in his leadership, because it’s another era of “do as I say,not as I do”Nothing has changed!

  4. A thief is thief it does matter what statue small or big. I knew that this agenda of fighting corruption will end up fighting itself to prove that he who lives by the sword dies by the sword. He who fights corruption, corruption will fight him back.

  5. This is hypocrisy in the highest other, how can he claim he’s fighting against corruption yet he spend such amounts sending his children to school abroad, he should be an example as a leader to the country than to be like other corrupt people. I never trusted him right from day one, and I will still not trust him. @Mailonline, please also ask him what he is doing about the Fulani herdsmen? That has been killing innocent people in south east, and other regions.

  6. God is not asleep. Keep pretending nd let ur cabinet keep lien both of dem should be praying Dat dere should not be change of power, am not a politician bt de citizen are suffering, no job, no lite, nothing is working nd dere we not stop telling de citizen lies nd travelling all time blaming de past Govt, we agreed Dat de past Administration is corrupt bt Dat is de reason why de citizen bring u to bring de change u promise bt de answer is de same becos dere is no difference btw de to rather past better God will help us

  7. Leaders live by example. Buhari’s leadership style and his acclaimed mr clean status is questionable. Isn’t it an aberration that Buhari’s children aren’t schooling here in Nigeria. Former president Shehu Shagari’s son schooled here in Nigeria, ditto his vice president’s children.
This is a president with so much acclaimed moral authority, but refused to disclose, as a public servant the types and numbers of his vehicles, instead he told us he had several vehicles. Ditto his properties.
Buhari is a fraud, an ethnic champion, an hypocrite and totally clueless with his medieval economic policies in moving the country out of the wilderness.
