We Are Being Treated Like Prisoners Of War And Refugees – PDP

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the unlawful detention of their members and loyalists by the current administration led by General Muhammadu Buhari.

The party’s spokesperson, Chief Olisa Metu, made this disclosure during a meeting with the PDP stakeholders in Lokoja, Kogi state, on Tuesday, July 21, 2015.

He said, “We condemn the uncivilised method of arrest, intimidation and the denial of the fundamental human rights of members of our party who served in the last administration by the Buhari-led administration.

“We’re being treated as if we are prisoners of war. We’re being treated like refugees. But we are not afraid, we have faith in our strength & unity; faith in the peace, unity & progress of Nigeria. We’re not afraid of the intimidation, harassment and arrest of our members by the administration of President Buhari.”

It would be recalled that the former Chief Security Officer of immediate past president Goodluck Jonathan, Gordon Obua was detained without charges by Nigeria’s secret police also known as the Department of State Security Service. DSS led by Lawal Daura, Buhari’s kinsman from his hometown in Daura, Katsina State.

The Trent gathered that Obua who is both hypertensive and diabetic was denied access to his drugs, doctors and lawyer.

Sources in the know confirmed to The Trent that he had died in detention after spending few days in the DSS headquarters in Abuja.

However, a press release by PR Nigeria, made available to The Trent in the afternoon of Tuesday, July 21, 2014 claimed that Obua is hale and hearty, adding that he even briefed the press on the state of his health.

In the meantime, Obua’s family and lawyer are yet to make an official statement regarding the story.
