President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday, November 16, 2015 said that his government was not in a hurry to begin the trial of government officials suspected to have siphoned public funds until verifiable evidence was fully documented against them.
Speaking at the Presidential Villa when he received a delegation from the Foursquare Gospel Church, President Buhari said that unlike military rule when the rule of law may be overlooked, nobody is guilty until proven by the law.
He said: “Under military rule, people could be arrested and held on the basis of suspicion, but in a true democracy, anyone accused of an offence must be presumed innocent until pronounced guilty by a court of law.”
