Women Are More Politically Reliable – Obasanjo

Must read

Nigeria’s former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 stated that women are more reliable in politics compared to their male counterparts although they were barely given the opportunity to exhibit their potential as a result of cultural and religious inhibitions, according to a Punch report.

Obasanjo made the assertion at his residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State when some national executive officers and members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NUJ) paid him a visit and presented  the “Father of the Nation Award.”

He said the job of nation-building was not something to be achieved by men alone, adding that politics should be conducted with decency, dignity and honour, which are virtues women are known for.

He said: “One of the best journalists that ever served me was a woman, and that was the late Mrs Oluremi Oyo. In politics, women are more reliable than men. When a woman says she’s with you, you can really take that she is with you. But if a man tells you he is with you and you catch him in another meeting, he will tell you it is politics. It should not be so.

“When a politician’s words cannot be believed, then you are turning politics into another thing. A politician must be a man or woman of honour, that believes in morality.”
