A 42-year-old man, Mr. Samuel Omosaba, has been arrested for allegedly beheading his 3-year-old niece, Adubarin Kola, at Ilepa quarters in Ikare-Akoko, Akoko North East local government area of Ondo State.

The unmarried suspect was arrested by police officials in the evening hours of Tuesday, February 16, 2016.

It was gathered that unemployed Omosaba, in his quest to get rich quick, had visited a  herbalist for money rituals in Ipe-Akoko, who demanded the head of a baby in order to grant his request.

The deceased’s mother, a trader, identified as Bunmi, was said to be in the habit of leaving her in the care of her grandmother at Ilepa quarters in Ikare.

An eyewitness said: “On Tuesday, Bunmi took her daughter to her mother-in-law but met her husband’s elder brother at home. He promised to take care of the child, until her grandmother returns.

“On her return from the market, Bunmi met her daughter’s body in her brother-in-law’s room.

“The suspect ‘confessed’ to family members that he killed the girl. He was nearly lynched by aggrieved youths before the police rescued him.”

When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Femi Joseph, confirmed the incident, adding that the matter had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigative Department (CID) Akure for further investigation.
