Al-Shabab Terrorists Kill Christian Workers At Quarry In Kenya

Must read

No fewer than 36 Christian quarry workers were reportedly killed in the early hours of Tuesday, December 2, 2014 near the north Kenyan town of Mandera when suspected al-Shabab gunmen opened fire at Christians after separating them from the Muslims, BBC reports.

The incident reportedly took place in the village of Kormey, about 9 miles from Mandera, close to the border with Somalia, an area from where the al Qaeda-affiliated militant group had been operating.

It was learnt that all the victims were allegedly shot in the head, except for four who were beheaded.

“It is sad that we have another 36 people who were attacked and killed late last night in the same manner it happened on a bus recently. It happened at a quarry about 15 km (10 miles) from Mandera town,” Mandera county governor Ali Roba told Reuters on phone.

Last month, precisely on November 22, 2014, the Islamist militant group had ambushed a bus heading from Mandera to the capital city of Nairobi and killed about 28 targeted Christians after separating them from the Muslim counterparts.

The terrorists admitted masterminding the bus attack in retaliation to the raids conducted by the police on mosques in November in Mombasa, Kenya’s second largest city.

A man who visited the scene of the incident disclosed that it appeared that some of the victims had been lined-up, and shot in the head, at close range whereas other reports suggested the workers’ tents had been sprayed with gunfire.

Al-Shabab has launched several attacks in Kenya after gaining prominence in 2011. The militant group has also carried out several retaliatory attacks after Kenyan soldiers targeted the group’s hideouts in Somalia.
