Several All Progressives Congress (APC) members of the House of Representatives, who had hitherto pledged allegiance to the party’s preferred candidate, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Thursday, June 11, 2015 availed that they supported Gbajabiamila simply because it was what the party leadership wanted.
Speaking while paying a visit to the eventual winner, Yakubu Dogara, a delegation of 33 lawmakers – 22 Kano and 11 Jigawa lawmakers – led by one of the most vocal Gbajabiamila supporters, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa pledged their loyalty to Dogara’s regime.
Ado-Doguwa said: “While we have no regrets whatsoever, with regards to the position we took during the contest, we must also accept the outcome of the process as democracy in action.
“However, we did what we did according to our party’s directives. And we wish to declare our total support for your regime and work with you and also advise you whenever we see that you are going wrong.”
Asides the delegation from Kano and Jigawa, members of the house from Adamawa, Gombe, Imo and Katsina States also paid the speaker a solidarity visit.
