A ‘wise’ bear has brutally pounced on a 55-year-old woman and finally buried her alive to possibly save her up for the next meal in the face of scarcity.
Now, Natalya Pasternak, is battling for her life ion a hospital following the attack which left her severely injured in the far east of Russia.
The attack happened when the mother of 2 who works in a post office was collecting birch sap in a forest near Tynda in Amur region with a friend.
A shocking picture taken by police showed the victim lying under the pile of foliage where the bear had buried her, a clawed and bloodied arm visible.
Despite the fact that her dog barked to sound an alarm, the warning came too late and she and the pet were overwhelmed by the wild animal.
Her escape is termed miraculous after her friend fled to raise the alarm with the emergency services
“The bear evidently thought the woman was dead and sought to bury her and hide its prey, apparently saving its next meal,” reported Siberian Times.
Rescuers arrived at the scene and gunned down the 4-year-old female bear when it attacked them.
Then they noticed the woman’s arm jutting out of a pile of leaves and sticks, bloodied with bear claw wounds.
The woman was “alive and conscious” despite serious injuries.
After her successful rescue, she quizzed, “Have you killed the bear?”
Her condition is severe according to paramedics at Tynda Hospital who noted that her two adult children are at her bedside.
