Boko Haram: President Jonathan Meets Northern Leaders

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday, September 18, 2014 held a meeting with a delegation of traditional leaders from the northern part of the country, led by Saad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto to discuss the spate of terror and violence threatening the region.

The meeting which was held at the conference room of the First Lady commenced at about 9:25 pm and also had vice president Namadi Sambo, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim, minister of information, labaran Maku as well as other presidential aides in attendance.

The traditional rulers had earlier met in Kaduna on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 to deliberate over the issue of Boko Haram and the economy in the north.

The Kaduna meeting had in attendance the chairman of the traditional rules council from all nineteen northern states while the meeting with the president had thirteen traditional rulers in attendance, including the Sultan.

After the Kaduna meeting, the Sultan told newsmen that they would take the resolutions reached by the rulers to the president in order to forge a strong alliance with the federal government against terror.
