Curfew Crisis: Adamawa Under 24-Hour Lockdown as Citizens Raid Warehouses for Palliatives

Must read

YOLA, NigeriaGovernor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has declared a 24-hour curfew in response to looting and violent activities by hoodlums, who stormed warehouses and began attacking people and private businesses.

The decision was announced on Sunday, July 30, 2023, after hoodlums broke into two warehouses, looting items, and escalated their activities to private shops and individuals.

Security forces have since intervened to control the situation.

According to a statement from Fintiri’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, the curfew was imposed due to “the dangerous dimension the activities of hoodlums had assumed across the state capital as they attacked people with matches and broke into business premises carting away property.”

The curfew entails a complete halt of movement throughout the state, except for those on essential duties with valid identification.

“Rt. Hon. Fintiri said only people on essential duties with valid identification would be permitted to move around during the curfew,” the statement read.

Governor Fintiri has urged all residents to comply with the curfew and warned that anyone contravening the order would be arrested and prosecuted.

The declaration of the curfew comes as part of an effort to restore law and order and prevent further escalation of violence that could endanger lives and property.

The incidents in Adamawa state are part of a growing concern over insecurity in various parts of Nigeria.

The decision to impose the curfew was likely not taken lightly, considering the potential impact on daily life and economic activities.

However, the urgency of the situation required immediate measures to protect the safety and well-being of the citizens.

Local authorities and security agencies will be on high alert to enforce the curfew and ensure normalcy returns to the state.

The situation serves as a reminder of the need for continued vigilance and proactive measures by government and security agencies to address underlying issues that may lead to unrest and criminal activities.

The cooperation and understanding of the citizens are also crucial in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
