AUSTIN, USA – For the first time in years, The Joe Rogan Experience has been toppled from its dominant position atop the Apple podcast charts.
The Rosary in a Year, a Catholic prayer podcast hosted by Father Mark-Mary Ames, claimed the number-one spot for the first three days of 2025.
The podcast, produced by Ascension Catholic Media, aims to help listeners “build a daily habit of prayer” and “form a relationship with Jesus and Mary.” Episode titles include “Responding to God,” “A Garden of Rest,” and “Heart of Jesus.”
The Rosary in a Year currently ranks second on Apple’s charts, behind The Shawn Ryan Show. It is also third most popular on Spotify, where The Joe Rogan Experience holds the second spot.
A Surge in Popularity
The Rosary in a Year, which launched late last year, follows the success of Ascension’s 2021 podcast, The Bible in a Year (with Fr. Mike Schmitz), which has held a steady presence in Apple’s top 10.
Father Ames’s show briefly surpassed heavyweights like Rogan’s podcast, Kylie Kelce’s Not Gonna Lie, and The Mel Robbins Podcast.
Rogan’s Enduring Popularity
Despite slipping in the rankings, The Joe Rogan Experience remains a major force in podcasting.
Currently ranked seventh on Apple and second on Spotify, Rogan’s show continues to draw massive audiences.
His October episode featuring President-elect Donald Trump has been viewed 53 million times, underscoring his influence during the 2024 presidential campaign.
In the episode, Rogan offered a strong endorsement of Trump, writing on X: “The great and powerful Elon Musk makes the most compelling case for Trump you’ll hear, and I agree with him every step of the way.”
However, Rogan might take solace in knowing that Musk’s guest appearance on his podcast holds the top spot for most-viewed JRE episodes, with 69 million views.
A New Era in Podcasting?
The rise of The Rosary in a Year highlights the growing diversity of podcasting audiences. Religious content, often overlooked in mainstream media, appears to be resonating with listeners seeking spiritual guidance and reflection.
While Rogan’s podcast remains a cultural juggernaut, the competition signals a shift in the podcasting landscape as niche shows find their way to the top of the charts.
For now, the battle for dominance in the podcasting world continues, with faith-based content proving it can hold its own against the biggest names in media.
