For allegedly inducing the federal government by false pretense that a parcel of land situated in Kurutie in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State has been acquired for the commencement of the Nigerian Maritime University, Government Ekpemukpolo, aka Tompolo and his co-traducers, Patrick Akpobolokemi and others were charged to court in Lagos on Monday, April 18, 2016.

Besides, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in its presentation before the court, accused the duo of fraudulent representations to the federal government, hence they committed offense punishable under section 1 (b) of the Advanced Fee Fraud Act 2006.

In the presentation at the Federal High Court in Lagos before Justice Ibrahim Buba, the EFCC leveled 22 count charges on Tompolo and Akpobolokemi and arraigned them over fraud case amounting to N47.6 billion.
While Tompolo was tried in absentia, Akpobolokemi with two other females, Josephine Otuaga and Rita Uruakpa, were present in the court.

The charges leveled against them dwelt on conspiracy, advanced fee fraud and money laundering.
The EFCC alleged that defendants defrauded the federal government between December 2, 2014 and April 10, 2015 through inducing the government to deliver 11 billion to them.

Tompolo and Akpobolokemi were further accused of tendering a forged certificate of occupancy of Bendel State, dated May 6, 2016 on the pretense that the documents were real, a development which led to swindling the federal government to the tune of N11.9 billion.

While Tompolo was absent, Akpobolokemi and others pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The trial judge, Justice Ibrahim Buba, admitted them on bail. The case was consequently adjourned to May 30 and 31, 2016.
