Husband Jailed For Battering Wife And Damaging Her Eye In Lagos

NAN – An Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court on Friday in Lagos slammed a N250,000 bail on a 37-year-old, Paul Oduozor, who allegedly battered his wife, Faith, and damaged her eye.

The Magistrate, Mr A.A. Fashola, who gave the ruling, also granted the accused two sureties in like sum.

He said the sureties, who should reside in the state, must show evidence of three years’ tax payment.

Fashola also ordered the accused to be remanded in Kirikiri Medium Prisons until the bail conditions were perfected.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that accused, a resident of No. 6, Oloro St., off Akanbi Street, Abaranje in Ikotun, a suburb of Lagos, pleaded not guilty to the charges of assault and causing grievous harm.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Femi Adeleye told the court that the accused had on March 9, 2011 in Ikotun area, caused his wife, Faith, bodily harm and damaged her eye.

“The accused, on the said date, ruthlessly beat up his wife thereby causing a permanent damage to one of her eyes.

“Paul also assaulted Faith by beating her.’’

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 168, 170 and 243 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The magistrate adjourned the case to Aug. 31 for mention.
