Jealous Man Bites Off Friend’s Ear After He ‘Liked’ His Girlfriend’s Facebook Photo (PICTURED)

Must read

A jealous man has bitten off his friend’s ear at a party because he ‘liked’ his ex-girlfriend’s photo on Facebook.

The 29-year-old suspect, Darren Smyth, was in prison when his friend, Christian Adams supposedly made the move that cost him the upper part of his ear.

According to Mirror UK, after Smyth was released from jail, he and Adams, alongside his former partner, were celebrating the New Year’s eve at The Royal Oak Hotel in Liscard Village, Wallasey.

When his friend approached to hug him, Smyth sunk his teeth into his left ear and ripped part of it off and the piece was nowhere to be found which left him with a lifetime disfigure.

In a victim personal statement, Adams said: “The impact emotionally has changed me from a sociable, confident lad with good job prospects, to an anxious, disfigured wreck.”

The defendant whose previous convictions include robbery, wounding, three assaults causing actual bodily harm, a violent disorder and common assault, admitted to committing the crime intentionally.

In his ruling, the judge gave him a four-year prison sentence, with an extended two years on licence, meaning he will serve at least two thirds of the sentence in jail.

He said: “You have a dreadful criminal record for offences of violence.

“Christian Adams was a man you knew well, who valued you as a friend. You behaved in a quite mindlessly violent way towards him.”

“I’ve seen the photograph of the wound you inflicted upon him, effectively removing the upper half of his left ear – a sadly disfiguring injury which will impact on him for many years to come.”

Speaking after the case, Detective Constable Mike Gallagher, of Birkenhead CID, said: “This was a despicable and cowardly attack on a young man who is now partially disfigured. It was made worse by it happening on the stroke of midnight, at a time of happiness and celebration.

“The victim has been very brave in coming forward supported by his family, close friends and Merseyside Police.

“The impact of this will remain with him for many years, both physically and emotionally.

“Merseyside Police supports the sentence passed today and hope it sends a message to anyone seeking to behave in such a violent manner.”
