Joseph Mbu, 20 AIGs Retired To Make Way For Buhari’s New IGP Appointee

Mr. Joseph Mbu, controversial former commissioner of police for Rivers State has left the Nigeria Police Force following a compulsory retirement approved by the Nigerian President, General Muhammadu Buhari.

The Nigerian police service commission has approved the retirement of 21 assistant inspector general of police who were senior to Mr. Ibrahim Idris, the new acting inspector general of police, before his appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Okechukwu Ani, spokesman of the police service commission, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, July 1, 2016, saying Sir Mike Okiro, chairman of the commission, congratulated the affected officers and wished them well in their new endeavours.

The new inspector general of police, Ibrahim Idris had written to President Muhammadu Buhari requesting for the compulsory retirement of the officers.

Idris was appointed on June 21, following the retirement of Solomon Arase, after he attained the mandatory retirement age of 60.
