A couple, Prince Alphonsus Mbakwe and Mrs Florence Mbakwe were on Friday, June 26, 2015 arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, the Lagos State High Court for defrauding one Professor Uchenna Elike of the sum of $38, 000.
The accused persons were arraigned before Justice Lawal Akapo on a five-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence and stealing from their victim with pretence of helping him secure a consultancy job in the Presidency.
When the charges were read to the duo, they pleaded not guilty which prompted the prosecution counsel, G.C Akaogu to plead with the court to reschedule the trial while accused persons were remanded in prison custody.
Justice Akapo ordered that the accused persons be remanded in EFCC custody and adjourned the matter to Tuesday, June 30, 2015 for hearing of the bail application.
