To ensure adequate protection of pupils in Lagos schools, Commissioner of Police Hakeem Odumosu on Monday, April 5, 2021, deployed more men to boarding schools across the state.

This deployment came weeks after the command moved in surveillance teams to schools to prevent  abduction of pupils.

Aside the deployments, the police boss, according to a statement by spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, lectured principals and school directors on steps to be taken to protect their students, staff members, and facilities.

According to Adejobi, Odumosu gave the tips during a security meeting with parents, schools, and officials of the Ministry of Education held at Alausa.

He said the meeting was a confidence building encounter, adding that the participants were lectured on redesigning and fortifying schools.

Adejobi said the meeting which was at the instance of the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folashade Adefisoye, was aimed at reviewing security architecture, improving safety of schools, and intensifying efforts on deploying human and material resources to protect lives and property in the schools.

“The police boss had an interactive session and shared some security tips with them so as to propel them into action on the general security of schools, both private and public, in the state,” he said.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, was accompanied to the meeting by all the 14 Area Commaders in the state, Heads of Departments and Intelligence officers of the command.

“The Commissioner of Police assured all and sundry, especially owners and principals of schools the command has taken necessary steps in deploying its human and material resources including intelligence gathering, patrols, raids of black spots, sensitisation programmes, Town Hall Meetings, threat analyses etc to brace up the security in and around both private and public schools in Lagos State.”

He also urged parents and guardians to assist in supervising their kids (students) and volunteer information to the police and other security agencies as it affects the safety of schools in the state.

“The Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folashade Adefisoye, encouraged them to put in their best to work with the police and other security agencies in the state in ensuring that our schools are safe and fortified against attacks,” he said.
