A devout Christian man who tried to imitate Jesus Christ by embarking on a 40-day fasting programme slumped and died on the 30th day.
73-year-old Reinfirst Manyuka, from Village 9, Summerton, reportedly went to the bush on Monday, June 15, 2015 to carry out the dry fast, promising his relatives that he would be back on the 40th day just like the Son of God but unfortunately, he didn’t make it.
The deceased was known by his family and the entire community as a very spiritual person who allegedly went to the ‘wilderness’ in his bid to emulate Christ but sadly, he did not equal or break Christ’s record, My Zimbabwe reports.
A close relative who broke the news to the online platform said, “He was a very spiritual man. It’s unfortunate he had to die this way. We got news of his death a month after he undertook the fasting. He was a healthy and religious old man who did not even look his age.”
