Ondo: Fulani Herdsmen Invade LG Secretariat, Worker Macheted

There was pandemonium on Tuesday, February 13, 2018, as suspected Armed Fulani herdsmen chased workers out of the Akure South Local Government Secretariat in Ondo state, following a disagreement.

Situation was brought under control by the timely intervention of Gbenga Adeyanju, the Ondo State commissioner of police, and Pedro Ideba, the commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, who deployed their men in the council.

One of the workers of the council was allegedly macheted by the herdsmen.

The members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees are asking the government to act on the matter.

Following the incident, the secretariat has been deserted by the workers, some of whom returned home after the incident.

on Sunday, February 11, 2018, the herdsmen killed a 32-year-old man, Olayemi Tunde, at Ipao in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State. This came as herdsmen bearing sophisticated weapons also attacked riot policemen deployed to maintain security at Azege community, Tombo ward of Gaambe- Tiev in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.

The killing of four people occurred at Bakin Kogi village in Jama’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Those killed, community sources said, were palm wine tapers, who were coming back from checking and tending to their palm trees in the morning, a daily ritual by local tapers. The attack occurred about 10a.m. when majority of the mostly Christian community were in church.
