More details have emerged from the deadly 30 minutes gun battle between some policemen and a gang of armed robbers in the late hours of Thursday, March 12, 2015 on the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge in Lagos State.

Six persons were reportedly shot dead from the incident which started after the armed robbers who robbed a bank at Lekki phase 1 attempted to escape through the link bridge to Ikoyi when they encountered policemen.

One of the deceased victims of the fracas was said to be a 15-year-old fish hawker while about three policemen were also reported dead during the encounter.

According to Pulse Ng, the teenage girl was trying to cross the road when she was struck on the head by the bullet.
An eye witness said, “She was shot on the head… so I believe she can’t survive it.
“They told us that we’ll still see the body, we haven’t seen the body. We haven’t seen the girl,” another witness said in Pidgin English.
“They said they’ve taken her to the hospital, they should show us which hospital they took her to, they didn’t tell us,” she added.
The deceased teenager’s mother and family members were seen weeping profusely at the scene of the incident.

Also speaking up about the incident was a police officer who arrived the scene after the robbers had escaped.

He said, “We just got the information that some group of hoodlums came through the Lagoon, attacked a commercial bank.
“Unfortunately, a group of policemen on escort duty to the airport ran into these hoodlums.
“We lost some officers, but we’re on top of it and we just want to assure everybody that we’re on top of this situation and we’re going to get at them. We are going to pick them up.”
The officer however said that he could not comment on how much had been taken from the bank as it was too soon to determine an actual figure.
