Turkish Prime Minister Promises To Find Spouses For Unmarried Citizens, But On 1 Condition

Must read

The Prime Minister of Turkey, Ahmet Davutoglu, has promised to help the single citizens find partners among many other things.

However, the condition to make the promise potent is if his Islamic-rooted party, Justice and Development Party (AKP), wins in the upcoming elections scheduled for Sunday, November 1, 2015.

Speaking during a campaign rally in southern Turkey on Friday, October 23, 2015 Davutoglu said: “We want people of this land to be fertile, to reproduce, if AKP is elected.

“We will give you work, food, a partner and a house. You have a job, a salary, food, what’s left? A partner.

“When you want to get married, you go to see your parents first. God willing, they will find the ideal person. If that’s not the case, speak to us,”

The party has long pushed for families to have more children as Turkey’s birth rate stands at 2.17 children born per woman, while in Germany, which has one of the world’s lowest levels, it is about 1.3.

As part of its election campaign, the AKP has promised to give cash to parents for newborns, with the amount increasing from the first to the third child, according to reports.

Meanwhile some liberal critics have lashed the party for it’s policies on family planning.
