It was a truly emotional moment for Michael Sam the US football player who became the first openly gay National Football League (NFL) draft pick thereby making sports history.
Sam, an All-American defensive lineman from the University of Missouri, was drafted in the seventh and final round of the 2014 NFL draft.
After hearing the good news that he was drafted by the St. Louis Rams, Sam celebrated with his family including his boyfriend.
The emotional moment was broadcast by ESPN.
