The governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose Thursday slammed Kayode Fayemi over comment that his legacies were being demolished by his government, saying “what we are destroying in Ekiti is Fayemi’s debt and other bad governance he inflicted on Ekiti.”
Fayose, who had been in the eye of the storm in recent time in view of factional crisis rocking his party and criticisms from the All Progressives Congress (APC), begged politicians to imbibe the spirit of forgiveness and tolerance for Ekiti to be peaceful.
The governor said this in Ado Ekiti at the swearing-in of the new Chairman of Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers and Ologotun of Ogotun Ekiti, Oba Oladapo Oyebade.
Oba Oyebade took over from Onitaji of Itaji Ekiti, Oba Adamo Babalola, who presided over the council for a period of two years. Fayose, who lamented the decadence that had hit the state’s education sector, disclosed that the state would hold its education summit in September. He appointed the Oluyin of Iyin Ekiti, Oba Ademola Ajakaye, the Chairman of the summit, which he said would map out strategy on how to reverse the decline in the sector.
“When I came in 2003, I organised an education summit, where experts in education sector came with strategies that really worked. The current situation of our education is very bad. It calls for concerns and worth being addressed as quickly as possible,” he said.
Fayose said he would continue to treat the traditional rulers with utmost respect and drink from their wealth of experience in the task of moving the state to higher pedestal.
“I was the first governor to appoint an Oba in Ekiti the Chancellor of the Ekiti State University in 2003. I appointed the Oore of Moba, Oba Adedapo Popoola during that period.
“Recently, I appointed the Alara of Aramoko Ekiti, Oba Olu Adeyemi as the Chancellor of the same university. This was borne out of the respect for the traditional stools because they are sacred and ordained by God.”
Fayose promised that his government would support the new chairman of the council to succeed in his new position, charging the members to reciprocate the gesture by maintaining peace and security in their domains.
