Nigerian security agencies have put the figure of people killed in this morning’s bomb blast in Abuja at 71, while 124 injured persons are receiving treatment in eight hospitals.
The Police Force PRO Frank Mba made this known to journalists in a joint statement on behalf of other security agencies.
The security agencies, following the visit of President Goodluck Jonathan to the scene of bomb explosion this morning in Nyanya District in the outskirt of Abuja, have confirmed that 71 persons have so far lost their lives while 124 others have been conveyed to about eight hospitals for treatment.
Mba reconfirmed that 16 luxury buses and 24 cars were destroyed in the blast. He also said that experts from the Bomb Disposal Squad have combed the area, with security personnel have being placed on red alert throughout the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) following the explosion that occurred at about 6.55 am
Authorities are setting up information centres at all the hospitals where survivors were being attended to in order to provide information to their families.
“The agencies are already paying very close attention to all vulnerable points including motor parks”, he noted.
