NAN – The Bauchi State Government said that 2,015 hectares of land had been allocated to electricity company for the construction of 100 megawatt power station in the state.
The state Deputy Governor, Alhaji Sangir Saleh, made this known when he received the management of Nigeria Solar Capital Partners (NSCP) in his office on Wednesday, February 18, 2015.
Saleh, who is also overseeing the state Ministry of Environment, said that the parcel of land was situated at Zongoro Village, in Ganjuwa Local Government Area.
He said that the state government had provided 18km corridor through a sub-station of the National Grid on Bauchi-Gombe Road for the commencement of the project.
Saleh said that residents of Zongoro Village and other surrounding villages had been enlightened through their traditional rulers and the local government over the sitting of the project.
He said that the state government would ensure that adequate security was provided at the site to ensure safety during the execution of the project.
The deputy governor said that when completed, the station would provide energy to industries, commercial, institutional and residential purposes.
He advised the company to adhere strictly to the contractual agreement reach between the two parties for socio-economic development of the state.
The representative of Nigeria Solar Capital Partners, Mr Joel Abraham, had earlier said that it took the company three years to make significant progress on the project.
Abraham said that when completed, the project would serve the state between 20 years to 40 years and would be the largest in Sub-Saharan African.
He assured that the host communities would be involved in both the construction as well as would enjoy the product of the project.
