The Boko Haram Islamist extremists have over the weekend faced great defeat following the combined efforts of Chadian and Nigerien troops who recaptured two towns in the northern Nigeria previously under the hostage of the insurgents.

This development was communicated through some sources from the Niger military on Monday, March 9, 2015.

According to Punch, about 30 Nigerien and Chadian soldiers were injured in fighting over Malam Fatouri and Damask.

This is coming just one day after several soldiers in their thousands crossed the border to reclaims some towns in the northern region under the captivity of the insurgents.

One of the sources said, “We have kicked the enemy out of these areas and they are now under our control.”

The source said that about 300 Boko Haram militants had been killed in the melee even though the figure has not been officially verified.

“We had permission from Nigeria for this action,” the source said.

Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Benin have this year mobilised forces to help Nigeria defeat the insurgents who have held several towns hostage.

Officials and witnesses said, “Also, troops from Chad and Niger opened a new front in the regional military fight against the Islamic extremist group, Boko Haram, as army vehicles full of soldiers crossed the border into the North-East of Nigeria.”
