The United States, France, UK, China, Russia and the United Nations have reportedly concluded plans to appoint President Goodluck Jonathan as UN Global Crisis Envoy after his hand over on Saturday, May 29, 2015.
President Jonathan’s endorsement for the role was made by the Secretary General of United Nations, Bank Ki Moon, as well as the 5 permanent members of the UN Security Council.
Vice President Joe Biden was said to have called President Jonathan on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 to inform him about the development.
By virtue of the appointment, the president would perform similar role as Tony Blair, who was appointed the Middle East Envoy for the United Nations, European Union, United States, and Russia after he left office as United Kingdom Prime Minister.
The president was considered for the appointment following his exhibition of statesmanship at the general elections on Saturday, March 28, 2015.
It would be recalled that President Jonathan called the president-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari to congratulate him moments before the final results were announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Ever since then, he has received lots of accolades commending him for being a true democrat by conceding defeat which saved the nation impeding blood bath.
