NAN – The Police on Thursday arraigned a 28-year-old man, Kehinde Ogundare, in a Mararaba Upper Area Court, in Nasarawa State for alleged assault.
The accused, who resides at Angwan Hausawa, New Karu is standing trial on a charge of assault, with the intent to molest.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Stephen Kwaza, told the court that one Anthonia Agbo of the same address with the accused lodged a complaint against the accused at the Karu Police Station on Nov. 24.
Kwaza said that on the same date, the accused of the same address with the complainant, assaulted her six-year-old girl on her way to school.
He said the accused forcefully took her behind the compound, lay her on a bench and used his fingers to play with her private part.
The prosecutor added that the accused subsequently forced his penis on her private part, which resulted to the girl walking abnormally.
Kwaza added that when the complainant confronted the accused, he assaulted the woman and denied committing the act.
He said the accused was later arrested and brought to the police station for interrogation.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 267 of the Penal Code.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Judge, Vincent Gwehemba, ordered the Police to investigate the issue more before the next adjourned date.
Gwehemba granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000, with one surety in like sum, and adjourned the case till Dec. 21, for further mention.
