The belief that it is not too late to begin becomes difficult to accept when age, regret or comparison convinces us that our most useful years are behind us.
Anna Mary Robertson Moses spent most of her life working on farms, raising a family and managing a household. She had enjoyed creating pictures when she was younger, but art was not her profession.
In her late seventies, arthritis made embroidery increasingly difficult. Rather than abandoning creativity, she turned seriously to painting.
A collector discovered her work, and the woman later known as Grandma Moses began exhibiting professionally around the age of 80. She continued painting into her final years and exhibited internationally well into her nineties. She died at 101. National Museum of Women in the Arts

Age Does Not Cancel Purpose
Society often treats purpose as something reserved for the young. People are encouraged to dream early, succeed quickly and consider slowing down as evidence that their meaningful contribution has ended.
Scripture presents a different picture. A life rooted in God can remain fruitful through every season.
Your energy, responsibilities and abilities may change with age. That does not mean your life has nothing new to produce.
Your Earlier Years Were Not Wasted
Grandma Moses did not arrive at painting with an empty life. Her memories of rural work, family, changing seasons and community became the substance of her art.
The years before a new beginning may be preparing the wisdom, patience and perspective required for it.
Do not despise your past simply because you are beginning something different. God can use what you have lived through as material for what comes next.
Fame Is Not the Measure
Grandma Moses became internationally celebrated, but not every late beginning will produce public recognition.
The value of beginning is not determined by fame.
You may learn a skill, begin a business, return to school, write a book, serve your community or deepen your spiritual life without attracting an audience. Growth remains valuable even when it is private.

Do not allow the years already spent to prevent you from using the years that remain.
You may be older than you hoped to be. You may wish you had started earlier. Begin anyway.
It is not too late to begin.

Heavenly Father, thank You for every year and opportunity You have given me.
Deliver me from believing that age, regret or delay has cancelled my usefulness. Show me how the experiences behind me can prepare me for the work ahead.
Give me courage to learn, create, serve and begin again. Let my life remain fruitful in every season.
