GAZIANTEP, Turkey — Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen delivered a performance to remember, scoring twice to propel Galatasaray to a resounding 3–0 victory over Trabzonspor in the Turkish Cup final at Gaziantep Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The triumph marks Galatasaray’s 19th Turkish Cup title and their first since 2019, capping off a dominant cup run highlighted by Osimhen’s prolific form.
Baris Alper Yilmaz opened the scoring in the 5th minute, latching onto a pinpoint cutback from Yunus Akgün to give the Istanbul giants an early lead.
From that moment, Galatasaray controlled the tempo, with Osimhen growing increasingly influential as the match progressed.
The Nigerian forward came alive in the second half, first muscling past a defender to smash home Galatasaray’s second, then finishing off a blistering counter-attack to score his second of the night and 35th of the season—an effort that sealed the result and brought the stadium to its feet.
In a subplot that added further intrigue, Osimhen faced off against fellow Nigerian and former Super Eagles teammate Anthony Nwakaeme, who was aiming to lead Trabzonspor to their first Turkish Cup crown since 2020.
Osimhen’s brace in the final capped a remarkable tournament campaign.
He scored both goals in Galatasaray’s 2–1 quarter-final win over arch-rivals Fenerbahçe and added a goal and an assist in the 5–1 demolition of Konyaspor in the semi-finals.
This latest success marks Osimhen’s first silverware with Galatasaray and the fourth major trophy of his career, following his U-17 World Cup and U-23 Africa Cup of Nations victories with Nigeria in 2015, and the 2022–23 Serie A title with Napoli.
In addition to his medal haul, Osimhen’s 35-goal season has earned him a place in Galatasaray history, breaking Mario Jardel’s long-standing record to become the highest-scoring foreign player in a single season for the club.
