2015: Enugu Chief Of Staff, 3 Commissioners, Special Advisor Resign

The chief of staff to Enugu state governor, Ifeoma Nwobodo, three commissioners and a special adviser to the governor on transport, Uche Nwobodo have resigned their positions on Monday, October 20, 2014 in order to formally declare for various political positions in the 2015 general election, Daily Independent reports.

The commissioners are those for lands, Chukwuemeka Ujam; Enugu capital territory, Ikechukwu Ugwuegede and transport, Chuka Utazi.

According to the report, Mrs. Nwobodo and Utazi plan to vie for senatorial slots in Enugu East and Enugu North senatorial districts respectively, Uche Nwobodo is reportedly seeking a seat in the house of assembly while Ugwuegede and Ujam seek to get voted into the house of representatives.

Chief press secretary to the governor, Chukwudi Achife when contacted said he could not speak authoritatively on the matter as they had submitted their resignation to the governor.

“May be by Tuesday, I will be in a better position to talk on this matter,” Achife said.

Bauchi Too

In a related development, reports suggest eight members of the Bauchi state executive council have resigned their appointments for similar political reasons.

Aminu Hammayo, the secretary to the state government, who also serves as the commissioner for land and housing as well as budget and planning resigned in order to vie for the office of governor.

Others who resigned their appointment are principal private secretary to the governor, Abdukadir Mohammed; government house’ chief of staff, Abubakar Ahmed Faggo.

Commissioners who resigned are those for agriculture, Bappah Azare, special duties; works and transport, Sani Mohammed Bura; tourism and culture, Mohammed Adamu and environment Tasiu Mohammed.

The resignations were confirmed by Adamu Alkali, the principal private secretary to the governor via a press statement in which he said Mahmud Maijama has been appointed as the acting secretary to the state government while Tanko Y Dutse has been appointed as the chief of staff for government house.

“Alhaji Mahmud Maijama, In addition to his function as SSG, will continue to serve as Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development”, He said.
